The Tassels consist of materials accumulated during walks I took throughout New York City over a four-month period in 2012. I scoured the the floors of fabric stores, city parks, sidewalks, and the alleyway of my studio building. I separated my findings by the six most common colors, and the resulting objects dictated their forms to me, informed in part by my research of decorative and spiritual history of Tassels. I created a suite of collages on paper to accompany each tassel, by color.

This work was commissioned by curator Cortney Stell, for an exhibition at Rocky Mountain School of Art and Design in Denver.
