MINED DENIM | 2011 (click to expand project)
Recycled denim, denim home insulation, bamboo, sinew, string, plastic, glue, spray paint, foam.
15 x 20 x 17 inches
2011
I was asked to participate in Denim, a Show curated by Dell Stewart at Mr. Kitly Gallery in Australia. I combined denim covered "Crystals" with hand- stitched bamboo scaffolding to create a loose narrative about denim as a natural resource, and the pollution created by the Chinese denim industry. The crystals rest on a "cloud" made of recycled denim home insulation. A digital collage accompanies the work, and is comprised from images of cotton balls, indigo dye, designer jeans and panels of denim home insulation.
